About the position

The Sales & Business Development Manager at Merit Financial Advisors is a pivotal role that focuses on marketing the firm to other financial institutions. This position serves as the first point of contact for prospective clients, playing a crucial role in establishing rapport and following up on leads to secure new business opportunities. The Sales & Business Development Manager will collaborate closely with the Chief Growth Officer to build a robust referral pipeline, vet and qualify leads, and facilitate the handoff to the Due Diligence team for the internal discovery process. In this role, the manager will develop strong relationships with top-tier institutions and prospects through consultative, educational, and proactive conversations that effectively communicate the Merit value proposition. The position requires scheduling appointments, meeting with new prospects, and diligently following up to cultivate a referral base. Tracking results from prospective client meetings and maintaining an updated referral list with the status of each prospect is essential. The manager will also perform initial qualification, vetting, and discovery of new clients, ultimately handing them off to the Merit advisor team. The role involves significant travel within the sales territory for prospective client meetings, making it essential for the manager to be adept at building relationships and navigating the financial services landscape. With a focus on comprehensive financial wellness, the Sales & Business Development Manager will contribute to the firm's mission of helping clients achieve financial freedom and confidence as they transition into retirement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with top-tier institutions and prospects through consultative, educational, and proactive conversations that deliver the Merit value proposition.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Growth Officer and growth team to design effective marketing and business development strategies that can help grow the referral pipeline.
  • Schedule appointments, meet with new prospects, and follow up with prospects to develop and cultivate a referral base.
  • Track results from prospective client meetings and keep the referral list updated with the prospect's status.
  • Perform initial qualification, vetting, and discovery of new clients, in order to ultimately hand off the client to the Merit advisor team.
  • Travel within the sales territory for prospective client meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in private wealth management within an RIA and/or BD environment.
  • Demonstrated success in wholesale outbound sales and building a referral network within the financial services industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent CRM, time management, and project management skills.
  • Must be able to travel around the regional area near the hub office (approximately 60% of scheduled work time).
  • Excellent computer and software skills including Microsoft Office and Salesforce.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or Communication.
  • Series 7 or 66/65, required.
  • CFA, CFP or CPA, preferred.
