About the position

The Sales Development Representative is part of our US Higher Education National Sales team and focuses on closing inbound sales opportunities online or by phone to achieve sales goals. Cengage Group's Higher Education business, Cengage, supports learning and student success by providing materials and digital solutions to faculty and students enrolled in two-year, four-year and vocational programs. We currently serve more than 10 million of the 18 million students in US higher ed. Setting a new standard of service for our customers, we deliver quality, easy-to-use course materials from textbooks and eBooks to courseware such as MindTap and WebAssign. We help instructors be better teachers, we help institutions solve problems and we empower students to leverage the power and joy of learning to transform lives.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers online or over the phone to confirm their needs, provide additional product information where necessary, and close on opportunities to achieve sales goal
  • Execute strategies and sales tactics to efficiently manage customer requests and maximize and close sales opportunities
  • Maintain customer interactions and sales opportunities in CRM and report progress to leadership
  • Build and maintain product knowledge and stay informed on sales campaigns
  • Effectively navigate tools, resources, and processes to prioritize time with customers
  • Share insights from customer interactions with stakeholders
  • Direct sales opportunities to Account Executives that require more exploration
  • Perform other duties as assigned to achieve team objectives

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in customer support or relationship-based role
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to achieve sales results
  • Strong desire and commitment to build and maintain product knowledge and to learn additional skills to close on sales opportunities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to engage customers and to collaborate with sales team
  • Highly organized with ability to prioritize time and work efficiently
  • Ability to establish professional online and phone presence and quickly build relationships
  • Demonstrated understanding of technology and some experience with digital products
  • Experience with computer systems and software applications to engage customers and track sales opportunities
  • Desire to work remotely with ability to travel as needed for training and meetings
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; bachelor's degree highly desired
