About the position

The Sales Development Representative at J.B. Hunt Transport is a pivotal role designed to drive business growth by developing and securing meetings with shippers to promote the company's enterprise offerings. This position operates under general supervision and requires a proactive approach to engage with potential customers. The representative will work closely with the sales team to devise effective sales strategies tailored to specific prospects, ensuring that the approach aligns with the overall business objectives. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for generating business opportunities through various lead generation efforts, including telephone and email communications, as well as marketing initiatives. A key aspect of the job involves evaluating prospective business opportunities using a structured customer qualification process. The representative will also be tasked with scheduling introductory meetings with potential customers and sales executives, effectively communicating the transportation service offerings provided by J.B. Hunt. Maintaining a robust pipeline of prospective customer contacts and sales leads is essential, and the representative will actively manage this pipeline using the company's sales contact database. Meeting or exceeding sales quotas set by management is a critical performance metric, which includes maintaining a certain number of contacts per week and meetings per month. Collaboration with the Lead Generation Specialist is also a part of the role, as they will plan and execute marketing efforts for each business opportunity. Networking within the organization to identify the right contacts for specific opportunities is encouraged, and some travel may be required to attend company events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop business opportunities with executives at prospective customers through lead generation efforts by interacting through telephone, email communications, marketing efforts, etc.
  • Evaluate prospective business opportunities using a prescribed customer qualification process.
  • Schedule introductory meetings with prospective customers and Sales Executives, by successfully communicating our transportation service offerings.
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospective customer contacts and sales leads for assigned Sales Executives; actively maintain the pipeline using the company sales contact database.
  • Meet or exceed sales quota standards set forth by management (e.g., contacts per week, meetings per month).
  • Work with Lead Generation Specialist to plan and deliver marketing efforts for each business.
  • Network within the building to know who the right contacts/relationship owners to strategize and collaborate on a specific opportunity.
  • Some travel required to company events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 5+ years experience in sales, marketing, or similar.
  • Experience in a sales position.
  • Proficient active listening skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Proficient time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Experience working in transportation.
  • Ability to identify and engage potential customers in the market.
  • Experience in selling an organization's products and services.
  • Ability to develop sales plans that are future-oriented, support business strategy and reflect understanding of emerging, as well as existing, opportunities and markets.
