About the position

The Director of Sales at Supermicro is a pivotal role responsible for driving the overall go-to-market strategy for the company. This position involves developing and executing effective strategies to win and maintain customer accounts, particularly in new markets and customer segments. The Director will leverage existing and emerging strategic partnerships to enhance business opportunities. The role requires a strong focus on revenue generation through various channels, including direct sales to government agencies and industries such as Data Centers, Cloud Computing, Gaming, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). In this role, the Director of Sales will be tasked with identifying, qualifying, developing, and closing sales against quotas. This includes executing outbound cold calls to potential system integrators, value-added resellers (VARs), and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The Director will also be responsible for uncovering opportunities for senior management to generate revenue from high-level executives and assembling a pipeline of both short-term and long-term opportunities through targeted lists for vertical markets. Additionally, the Director will monitor inventory, negotiate prices, manage order statistics, facilitate credit issues, and negotiate returns. Regular travel to customer sites is expected to present Supermicro's products and maintain account integrity. The role also includes supervising and co-supervising various levels of a sales team, providing training and development, and managing performance-related issues. The successful candidate will be required to provide weekly sales reports and customer meeting/call reports as requested by their supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute effective strategies to win and maintain customer accounts
  • Identify, qualify, develop and close sales against quota to Government agencies and Data Centers/Cloud, Gaming, and HPC industries
  • Execute outbound cold calls to potential System integrators, VARs, and OEM customers
  • Uncover opportunities for senior management to generate revenue from high-level executives
  • Assemble a pipeline of both short-term and long-term opportunities through target lists for vertical markets
  • Monitor inventory, negotiate prices, enter and monitor order stats, facilitate credit issues and negotiate returns
  • Travel to customer sites to present Supermicro's products as well as to maintain account integrity
  • Supervise/Co-supervise varied levels of a sales team, including directing work, providing training and development and managing performance related issues
  • Provide sales weekly report and customer meeting/call report per Supervisor request

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10+ years' experience in a server, storage networking, or AI sales environment
  • Results-oriented drive and a solid work ethic
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, executive presence, and judgment
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and closing skills
  • Must be willing to utilize self-admin skills as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time or as needed
