About the position

The Sales Engineer Consumables is responsible for driving profitable sales of Makino Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) Consumables and generating leads for EDM machine opportunities within the North Carolina/Virginia territory. This role focuses on developing relationships with current and potential users of the company's machine tool products, consumables, and accessories, ensuring effective coverage of the assigned territory through various sales activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with customers as the 'first line' of Sales.
  • Initiate sales calls and create rapport with Makino Sales Engineers to develop Consumable and Machine Sales relationships.
  • Organize work and planning activities for the most effective coverage of assigned territory.
  • Schedule calls on actual and prospective customers.
  • Identify Makino machine lead opportunities by understanding customer needs and their operations.
  • Provide detailed description of sales opportunities to Manager and enter information into CRM software.
  • Contact customer and prospective customers to discuss requirements, specifications, problems and/or any outstanding issues.
  • Prepare and generate sales quotes with assistance from Consumable Support Associates.
  • Track past-due shipments and keep customers informed of any changes or situations affecting delivery.
  • Constantly review consumable sales efforts and results in relation to forecasts or potential of territory.
  • Provide input into the consumable forecast process to support procurement of required materials to the Consumables Operations Group.
  • Interact professionally with customers and employees at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive to customer locations.
  • Technical knowledge of EDM Consumable products with ability to share with customers in a professional manner.
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office (experience with SalesLogix and SAP preferred).
  • Strong ambition and eagerness to develop new sales strategies, territories and customers.
  • Team player with ability to work closely with Makino Machines Sales Engineers and the Consumable Operations Groups.
  • Solid problem-solving skills and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer relation skills.
  • Willingness for weekly regional travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience with EDM machine tools or EDM Consumables preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience developing sales territory and the ability to 'close' the sale.
