About the position

The Sales Engineer position at a prominent player in the engineering and high-tech automotive sector is a critical role that serves as the main point of contact for customers. This position is responsible for driving sales volume, forecasting, and sales growth by maintaining and expanding the customer base within a designated territory. The Sales Engineer will engage with current and potential customers, including engineers, designers, and other technical personnel across various commercial and industrial establishments. The goal is to effectively communicate the desirability and practicality of the products and services offered by the company. In addition to direct sales responsibilities, the Sales Engineer will support distribution sales growth through training, support, joint calls, marketing initiatives, and goal setting. A significant part of the role involves reviewing customer drawings, plans, and other documents to develop accurate cost estimates and ensure the delivery of properly engineered products. The Sales Engineer will also provide technical support to clients regarding the operation of motors, drives, and related products, ensuring that customers receive the necessary assistance to optimize their use of these technologies. The role requires the preparation and presentation of customer quotations, training sessions, seminars, call reports, and special reports as directed. Collaboration with the Accounts Receivables team to collect delinquent payments is also a key responsibility. The Sales Engineer will prepare and submit sales reports and share market information with other departments within the organization to foster a collaborative environment. Participation in the Sales Engineer Certification Program is expected, focusing on enhancing technical knowledge of the products. The main job responsibilities include pre-sale consulting and support, motor sizing, product recommendations, and cross-referencing other manufacturers' products. The Sales Engineer will also provide technical assistance to sales and field engineers by conducting technical seminars, product training sessions, and setting up demo units for on-site demonstrations and trade shows. After-sale support will involve system setup, programming and testing of stepper and servo motor driver/controllers, interfacing products with custom software, troubleshooting, and optimizing system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for sales volume, forecasting, and sales growth by maintaining existing customer base and increasing new customer base within designated territory.
  • Call on current and potential customers such as engineers, designers, or other professional and technical personnel at commercial, industrial, and other establishments.
  • Support distribution sales growth via trainings, support, joint calls, joint marketing, and goal setting.
  • Review customer drawings, plans, and other customer documents to develop and prepare cost estimates and properly engineered products.
  • Provide technical support to clients relating to the operation of motors, drives, and related products.
  • Prepare and present customer quotations, trainings, seminars, call reports, and special reports as directed.
  • Work with Accounts Receivables to collect delinquent payments.
  • Prepare and submit sales reports.
  • Share market information working with other departments throughout the organization.
  • Participate in the Sales Engineer Certification Program as related to the Technical Knowledge of products.
  • Provide pre-sale consulting and support, motor sizing, product recommendations, and cross-reference other manufacturers' products.
  • Conduct technical seminars and product training sessions; set up demo units for on-site demonstration and trade shows; prepare technical articles for monthly newsletter publication.
  • Provide after-sale support including system setup, stepper and servo motor driver/controller programming and testing, interfacing products to custom software, product troubleshooting, and system performance optimization.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in sales engineering or a related field within the engineering or high-tech automotive sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of motors, drives, and related products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to analyze customer drawings and plans to prepare accurate cost estimates.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical information and sales reports.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide technical support to clients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with programming and testing of stepper and servo motor driver/controllers.
  • Familiarity with custom software interfacing and troubleshooting.
  • Previous experience in conducting training sessions or seminars.
