About the position

The Sales Engineer position at a prominent player in the engineering and high-tech automotive sector is a critical role that serves as the main point of contact for customers. This position is responsible for driving sales volume, forecasting, and overall sales growth by maintaining and expanding the customer base within a designated territory. The Sales Engineer will engage with current and potential customers, including engineers, designers, and other technical personnel across various commercial and industrial establishments. The goal is to effectively communicate the desirability and practicality of the products and services offered by the company. In addition to direct sales responsibilities, the Sales Engineer will support distribution sales growth through training, support, joint calls, joint marketing efforts, and goal setting. A key aspect of the role involves reviewing customer drawings, plans, and other documentation to develop accurate cost estimates and ensure the delivery of properly engineered products. The Sales Engineer will also provide technical support to clients regarding the operation of motors, drives, and related products, ensuring that customers receive the necessary assistance to optimize their use of these technologies. The role includes preparing and presenting customer quotations, conducting training sessions, seminars, and generating call reports and special reports as directed. The Sales Engineer will collaborate with Accounts Receivables to manage delinquent payments and will be responsible for preparing and submitting sales reports. Sharing market information and collaborating with other departments within the organization is also a vital part of the job. Participation in the Sales Engineer Certification Program is expected, focusing on enhancing technical knowledge of the products. The responsibilities extend beyond pre-sale activities to include after-sale support, which encompasses system setup, programming and testing of stepper and servo motor driver/controllers, interfacing products with custom software, troubleshooting, and optimizing system performance. This multifaceted role requires a blend of technical expertise and sales acumen, making it essential for the Sales Engineer to be proactive and customer-focused in all interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for sales volume, forecasting, and sales growth by maintaining existing customer base and increasing new customer base within designated territory.
  • Call on current and potential customers such as engineers, designers, or other professional and technical personnel at commercial, industrial, and other establishments.
  • Support distribution sales growth via trainings, support, joint calls, joint marketing, and goal setting.
  • Review customer drawings, plans, and other customer documents to develop and prepare cost estimates and properly engineered products.
  • Provide technical support to clients relating to the operation of motors, drives, and related products.
  • Prepare and present customer quotations, trainings, seminars, call reports, and special reports as directed.
  • Work with Accounts Receivables to collect delinquent payments.
  • Prepare and submit sales reports.
  • Share market information working with other departments throughout the organization.
  • Participate in the Sales Engineer Certification Program as related to the Technical Knowledge of products.
  • Provide pre-sale consulting and support, including motor sizing and product recommendations.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales and field engineers by holding technical seminars and product training sessions.
  • Set up demo units for on-site demonstrations and tradeshows.
  • Prepare technical articles for monthly newsletter publication.
  • Provide after-sale support including system setup, programming, testing, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in sales engineering or a related field within the engineering or high-tech automotive sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of motors, drives, and related products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with customers and technical personnel.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Experience in preparing cost estimates and sales reports.
  • Proficiency in reviewing technical drawings and documentation.
