About the position

The position involves leading new technology and product introduction for a Tier 1 service provider's routing and switching network. The role focuses on the implementation of advanced networking solutions, including Segment Routing over IPv6, and requires collaboration with various teams to ensure successful deployment and adherence to customer requirements. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining security compliance and enhancing network telemetry solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new technology and product introduction in a Tier 1 service provider routing and switching network.
  • Complete standardization and production network implementation of UT 2.0 Phase 1 with successful WaveRouter FOA and deployment.
  • Implement IPv6 management plane in the existing UT production network.
  • Integrate Segment Routing over IPv6 data plane (SRv6) into the UT production network.
  • Adapt commercial internet, L2VPN, and ELINE service design to new SRv6 infrastructure and create designs for new service offerings.
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) certification and standardization for new Ciena edge and core routing platforms for SRv6.
  • Design and quote equipment for customer's Access and Core Infrastructure Network planning teams.
  • Lead IT development deliverables for customer OSS systems including workflow design and NETCONF RPCs.
  • Create, validate, and present NETCONF RPCs for network automation of service activation and assurance testing.
  • Configure and maintain customer lab test beds for agile IT development teams.
  • Provide test bed troubleshooting assistance to maximize system availability.
  • Own and lead telemetry solution requirements, design, and standardization testing for UT and ULH networks.
  • Maintain an up-to-date view of customer telemetry and security requirements, identifying gaps and driving feature enhancements.
  • Conduct periodic reviews with internal and customer security groups to improve Ciena's security posture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience engineering, provisioning, and troubleshooting routing and switching solutions in large carrier and enterprise networks.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in routing and switching protocols such as Layer 2 Ethernet, IP, MPLS, ISIS, OSPF, RSVP-TE, BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with Carrier Ethernet or IP-based platforms (Ciena, Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Adva, or equivalents).
  • Excellent understanding of MEF-based Carrier Ethernet Services.
  • Solid working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and Windows system administration.
  • Ability to formulate and execute comprehensive test plans or methods of procedure.
  • Ability to work with customers to understand and define requirements and priorities.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams to achieve customer objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent written and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Multitasking and adaptability to changing project priorities and market demands.
  • Ability to travel frequently for domestic and international business on short notice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IPv6, segment routing, SR-MPLS, or SRv6.
  • Experience with telemetry protocols such as gRPC, gNMI, TLS.
  • Knowledge of network security, AAA security, and/or cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge in network management, northbound interfaces (NBI), network automation, and service orchestration.
  • Programming experience in Python or other languages for network automation purposes.
  • Knowledge in optical networking technologies and protocols such as OTN, DWDM, ROADM, SONET/SDH, PON/FTTH.
  • Experience leading successful New Product Introduction (NPI), field trial, or FOA projects.
