About The Position

The Sales & Events Manager for the City of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for overseeing the Office of Special Events. This role involves managing event permits, coordinating logistics for various events, and ensuring successful event production while liaising with multiple departments. The manager will supervise event coordination staff, monitor parkland usage, and manage post-event restoration efforts. This position requires strong leadership, project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Liberal Arts, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Five years of relevant work experience in a convention center, public events, or related industry, with two years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four years.

  • Experience with event contract management and billing.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee event/festival permit needs and review.
  • Assist with coordination of event ceremonies, film permitting, and logistics.
  • Assist clients with permitting processes in the park system and liaise with other departments.
  • Provide technical, permit, and event-related contract assistance to other divisions.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules for events.
  • Manage tasks and teams on project critical paths and resolve issues.
  • Provide reports and briefings to Boards and Commissions, City Council, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervise event coordination staff and monitor unauthorized use of parkland for events.
  • Project manage post-event grounds conditions restoration work and lead contract management activities.
  • Conduct strategy meetings to ensure transparency among the team.
