The Sales and Marketing department is looking for a property and casualty field territory underwriter for our Eastern Washington territory. This field-based underwriter will play a critical role in evaluating, assessing, and pricing risks while leading profitable growth for our agency partners in the specified territory. The position is fully remote for those serving territories away from our headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. The starting pay for this position ranges from $90,000 to $152,000 annually, with a competitive compensation package based on education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze risks, price, negotiate, and make informed decisions on commercial business underwriting.
  • Sell and solicit business across all available business units within the territory to build strong, diverse agency relationships.
  • Lead territory in strategic plan development, ownership, and execution of enterprise-wide growth and profit, including new agency appointments.
  • Achieve deep relationships with assigned agencies to build a diverse and profitable portfolio, ensuring consistent presence within agency offices.
  • Partner with and lead other field disciplines within designated agency relationships to ensure their success through communication, support, and collaboration.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, emerging risks, and primary competitors to make informed decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial underwriting experience; more than 3 years preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Willingness to travel and visit agencies within the territory regularly.
  • Strategic business plan development skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant insurance industry certifications (e.g., Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)).
  • Experience in professional selling.
