About the position

As a Sales Floor Department Supervisor at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in delivering quality customer service while ensuring that the store is clean, safe, and well-stocked with the products our customers need. Your primary responsibility will be to lead and enable a team of associates to provide the best possible customer experience. This includes coaching and training associates, delegating tasks, managing performance, and ensuring adequate department coverage. You will be involved in both customer-facing activities, such as greeting customers and closing sales, as well as non-customer-facing tasks like inventory management and area recovery. Additionally, you will be responsible for store safety, which includes conducting safety walks and reporting hazards. In this role, you will work closely with your leaders to identify effective approaches and behaviors that meet sales and service objectives. You will communicate best practices to your team in a way that inspires customer-focused behavior and goal attainment. The position may also require you to supervise associates in other departments as needed, which necessitates broad product knowledge and the ability to engage with both associates and customers across various departments. Furthermore, you will be expected to communicate upward to keep management informed of any concerns, issues, praises, and morale within the team. Occasionally, you may be required to open or close the store or serve as the manager-on-duty (MOD). This role does not require regular travel, but you may need to travel occasionally for meetings, training, or to support neighboring stores or outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and enable a team of associates to deliver the best possible customer experience.
  • Coach and train associates on customer service and store operations.
  • Delegate tasks and follow up on daily responsibilities to ensure performance management.
  • Ensure adequate department coverage and assist with down stocking and area recovery.
  • Monitor the use of store power equipment and coach employees on safe behaviors and lifting techniques.
  • Conduct safety walks, report hazards, and understand safety and lifting directions.
  • Engage with customers to clarify needs and identify solutions, closing sales as necessary.
  • Communicate best practices to the team to inspire customer-focused behavior and goal attainment.
  • Supervise associates in other departments as needed to meet store demands.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in a retail environment OR 5 years of experience in a retail environment.
  • 1 year of experience in customer service.
  • 1 year of experience supporting the unique needs of Pro customers (for Pro Department Supervisor).
  • Experience providing direction or supervision to teams (with or without direct report responsibility).
  • Experience supporting or participating in the process of training, mentoring, and developing associates.
  • Experience working cross-functionally.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain sales-related licensure or registration as may be required by law.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of retail customer service experience.
  • 3 years of experience supporting the unique needs of Pro customers (Pro Department Supervisor).
  • Experience in a leadership role with direct report responsibility.
  • Experience working in the home improvement retail sector.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment.
  • Experience in a key carrying role with manager-on-duty responsibilities.
  • Experience using store computer systems (including but not limited to: Project Tool, Genesis, Sterling, M2O, Thin Client, etc.).
