About the position

The position is responsible for achieving or exceeding sales and gross margin rate budgets within a designated sales territory, specifically focusing on the construction, communication, industrial, utility, and commercial, institutional, and government (CIG) markets. The role involves managing a team of seven to ten sales representatives and/or trainees, overseeing an annual budget of up to $4 million, and may include serving as a sales trainer. The individual will develop and implement business plans, evaluate industry trends, and maintain relationships with key customers and suppliers to ensure effective market positioning and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop business plans that support the assigned specialty market within the assigned territory.
  • Work with sales employees to develop tactical plans that implement the district plan.
  • Establish annual sales and gross margin rates for applicable sales reps or other sales employees within the district.
  • Evaluate industry and business trends for potential impact on the district.
  • Identify key business opportunities and potential threats within the assigned sales territory.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure effective recruiting, staffing, employee development, performance management, and succession planning programs are in place.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tools and training programs to support business growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a progressively responsible business or wholesale distribution industry role.
  • High school diploma or GED required; preferred 5 years' experience and a four-year degree.
  • Knowledge of the wholesale distribution industry and the company's business, customers, suppliers, and external market conditions.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis methods and continuous improvement techniques.
