The Sales Proposal Engineer/Application Engineer at Fuel Tech plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical and business teams to deliver pre-contract customer-focused deliverables. This position involves a variety of responsibilities, including bid and specification reviews, equipment selections, and engineering and equipment cost estimates. The engineer will provide essential input to sales managers and business development teams, ensuring that proposals are not only concise but also profitable for client submittals. Once an order is successfully secured, the engineer will facilitate the handover from Sales to Project Execution, ensuring a seamless transition and clear communication throughout the process. In this role, the engineer will provide technical assistance to both internal and external clients, including consulting engineers, end users, plant operators, sales representatives, and customer service teams. They will collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Process Engineering to evaluate design requests and determine unit sizing for prospective DGI® applications. Additionally, the engineer will coordinate the development of preliminary process design reports and create FTEK bid specifications that include both commercial and technical details for suppliers and contractors. The engineer will also work closely with various departments, including Project Execution, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Legal, to gather all necessary commercial, technical, and process requirements for effective proposal development and vendor RFQ specification development. They will be responsible for determining all associated costs related to electrical, mechanical, engineering, and service aspects of preliminary process designs, bids, and quotations. Furthermore, the engineer must possess a thorough understanding of DGI equipment operation and be capable of presenting this technology to engineers, owners, and operators, both in person and virtually. Participation in internal project kickoff meetings is essential to ensure a smooth transfer of information from Sales to Project Execution. The engineer will assist in the early stages of project execution to clarify equipment and installation requirements and establish communication protocols with installation contractors and engineering firms. Throughout the pre-contract phases, the engineer will ensure a clear and concise turnover of projects, developing project requirements that include scope, schedule, budget, preliminary designs, performance guarantees, contract LDs, and warranties. They will also support pre and post-contract management activities, reviewing contract terms and conditions and coordinating necessary logistics such as insurance and shipping requirements.
