About the position

The Sales Store Checker position at the Department of Defense involves operating a cash register scanning system to facilitate customer purchases in a Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) commissary. The role requires managing cash transactions, assisting customers, and ensuring the proper functioning of checkout systems. This is a full-time, permanent position with an irregular schedule that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Operate an electronic checkout system and process customer transactions.
  • Manage change machines to ensure proper cash and coin availability.
  • Assist customers with inquiries regarding prices, identification, and location of items.
  • Count cash and negotiable instruments and prepare accountability reports.
  • Manage self-check-out registers and assist customers with their purchases.
  • Change register tape and clear routine equipment and scanning jams.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
  • Must meet the minimum age requirement.
  • Six months of progressively responsible clerical or office experience, or one year of education above high school, or a combination of both.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds independently.
