About the position
The Sales Store Checker position at the Department of Defense involves operating a cash register scanning system to process customer purchases in a commissary store. This role is similar to that of a cashier or clerk in a retail environment, requiring customer service skills and the ability to manage cash transactions effectively. The position is part-time with an irregular schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, across various locations.
Responsibilities
- Operate an electronic checkout system and process customer transactions.
- Make change and verify the change fund and amount of currency received during assigned shifts.
- Manage change machines and ensure proper amounts of cash and coins are available.
- Assist customers by answering questions regarding prices, identification, and location of items.
- Count cash and negotiable instruments to prepare accountability reports.
- Manage self-checkout registers and assist customers with processing their purchases.
- Change register tape and clear routine equipment and scanning jams on registers.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national.
- Meet minimum age requirement.
- Six months of progressively responsible clerical or office work experience, or one year of education above high school, or a combination of both.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 25 pounds independently.
