About the position

The Sales Territory Manager at Pekin Insurance is responsible for managing agency relationships and driving new business sales growth across Personal, Commercial, and Life insurance sectors. This role involves meeting sales objectives, providing underwriting expertise, and collaborating with agents to enhance performance and profitability within the assigned territory. The ideal candidate will be proactive in recruiting new agencies and ensuring that service levels are met while maintaining strong relationships with the agency force.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the marketing of personal, commercial, and life activities in the territory to achieve established profitability and/or production objectives.
  • Provides technical and field underwriting expertise to the agency force.
  • Develops, negotiates, and executes business plans for selected agencies in accordance with company underwriting and sales objectives.
  • Acts as the point person for all sales initiatives, driving new business quote activity and results.
  • Recruits new agencies and processes new agency appointments and sales within the territory.
  • Monitors agent results (production, profit, pricing, loss ratio, hit ratio, etc.) within the assigned territory to manage performance and develop corrective actions as necessary.
  • Works closely with underwriting and service teams to ensure service levels are met for assigned agents and communicates regularly with these teams.
  • Collaborates with the underwriting team to ensure understanding and agreement of territory and individual agent strategies.
  • Monitors the local marketplace, develops competitive intelligence, and makes recommendations regarding new and/or existing products/programs.
  • Makes systematic calls on agents to aid in sales, underwriting, and education of agency personnel.
  • Communicates the company philosophy, policy, and method of doing business to the agency force, providing motivation and establishing agency objectives and goals.
  • Conducts periodical sales and educational meetings for the agency force to promote contests and production.
  • Conducts periodic agency performance reviews with Sales Management and underwriting teams, creating action plans to improve agency performance.
  • Assists and trains agencies in using the Company Intranet website.
  • Maintains the call report and/or software system by reporting dates, times, and relevant information about each monthly agency call.
  • Attends sales meetings at the Pekin Home Office and annual award banquets.
  • Maintains a positive image and builds strong agency relationships.
  • Supports Life Specialist in generating sales, identifying opportunities, and educating the agency force.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Insurance related field or equivalent experience.
  • Typically requires 3+ years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in listening and communicating, with the ability to speak in public.
  • Ability to manage one's own time and work independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of the local marketplace and Microsoft Office software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous sales and/or field marketing experience strongly desired.
  • Experience with all lines of insurance: Life, Commercial, and Personal.
  • Certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) preferred.
