About the position

The Salesforce Technical Developer at Medidata Solutions will play a crucial role in the company's digital transformation efforts within the life sciences sector. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Corporate Technology, this position is designed for an individual who can effectively collaborate with Product Owners, Business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and various stakeholders to design and implement key program initiatives. The developer will work closely with Medidata analysts to translate business requirements into functional applications using Salesforce technology, thereby supporting the company's strategic goals and the implementation of approved projects. In this role, the Salesforce Technical Developer will be responsible for developing Apex classes and triggers, Lightning Components, and Visualforce pages to extend Salesforce capabilities in alignment with business needs. The position requires a strong focus on application development, including the creation of basic Visualforce pages and Lightning Web Components. Additionally, the developer will design and implement interfaces and APIs using web services and Apex code, ensuring seamless integration with other systems. The developer will also be tasked with creating and maintaining workflows, approval processes, and validation rules based on internal stakeholder requirements. Participation in the design of data integration to connect Salesforce.com with other systems is essential, as is interfacing with vendor partners to design optimal solutions for integration. The role involves researching new Salesforce releases to understand their impact on the organization and performing data manipulation, including importing and exporting data using Data Loader. Knowledge of CPQ configuration and Professional Services Automation (PSA) is a plus, as is the ability to contribute to technical documentation and take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Apex (classes and triggers), Lightning Components, and Visualforce to extend Salesforce to support business requirements.
  • Application development, including basic Visualforce pages/Lightning pages, Lightning Web Components.
  • Designing and implementing interfaces and APIs utilizing web services and Apex code.
  • Create and maintain workflows, approval processes, and validation rules based on internal stakeholder requirements.
  • Participate in the design of data integration to connect Salesforce.com and other systems.
  • Interface with vendor partners and design optimal solutions for integration with Salesforce.com.
  • Research new releases of Salesforce.com and understand how they impact our organization.
  • Data manipulation and import and export data using Data Loader.
  • Maintenance and creation of Quote to cash applications, product hierarchy, price lists. Knowledge of CPQ configuration is a plus.
  • Domain knowledge of Professional Services Automation (PSA) and prior implementation of PSA apps on Salesforce platform is a plus.
  • Contribute to technical documentation.
  • Other responsibilities or projects assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years' experience configuring/developing Salesforce.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working in waterfall, scrum, lean, and/or agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Life Science Industry and CPQ is a plus.
  • Ability to balance platform declarative configuration with programmatic development (Apex, Components, etc.).
  • Proficient in programmatic development (Apex) and declarative Salesforce platform development including but not limited to: Reports, Dashboards, Custom Object/Fields, Validation Rules, Flow, Page Layout, Flexipage, Lightning Components, Salesforce API development.
  • Initiative-taking, results-oriented, excels in a team environment, innovative individual able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Thorough understanding of Salesforce.com platform out-of-the-box functionality and configuration.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) especially as related to Salesforce best practices, coding standards, and security guidelines.
  • Salesforce Certifications in Platform App Building, Cloud/Consultant and CPQ certifications are highly desirable.
