About the position

The Sam Houston National Forest - Forestry Recreation Technician position is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in forestry and environmental management. This role is part of the AmeriCorps program and involves working closely with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to support various recreational activities within the Sam Houston National Forest, located near New Waverly, Texas. As a Forestry Recreation Technician, you will be engaged in hands-on work that contributes to the management and enhancement of the forest's recreational resources. In this position, you will collaborate with USFS Recreation Program staff to oversee several recreation areas throughout the forest. Your responsibilities will include interacting with public visitors, providing information about the forest, and ensuring that trails, campgrounds, and other recreational facilities are well-maintained and accessible. You will also assist in managing the budget for the recreation program, which will involve planning and implementing projects that enhance the visitor experience while promoting environmental stewardship. This role is ideal for those who are passionate about conservation and enjoy working outdoors in a dynamic environment. Participants in this program will gain valuable experience in forestry, trail management, and public engagement, while also receiving industry-recognized certifications and an education award upon completion of their service. Responsibilities
