About the position

The Sample Handling Assistant at Labcorp is responsible for the receipt and processing of clinical trial specimens, ensuring that all samples are handled according to established protocols. This entry-level position requires a minimum of 3 months of Specimen Management training and involves various tasks related to specimen management, quality control, and data entry. The role is essential in maintaining the integrity of clinical trial specimens and supporting the overall drug development process.

Responsibilities

  • Receive shipments for the Biorepository from different couriers and perform all related tasks.
  • Resolve misrouted shipments and perform all related tasks.
  • Open and clean inbound shipments.
  • Ensure quality control of discarded material and report to management as needed.
  • Maintain temperature of specimens in received condition.
  • Scan shipments into the database.
  • Electronically archive requisitions using the document management system.
  • Perform the first data entry of all patient demographics and administrative entries.
  • Prepare original requisitions for hard copy archiving.
  • Check and result different administrative data via RES if applicable.
  • Perform tasks in the Aliquotting area.
  • Maintain and clean instruments if applicable, as well as manual aliquots and related tasks.
  • Sort testing specimens as per local rules.
  • Sort specimens for storage and acknowledge them in the system with the pre-scan function.
  • Perform Kit Receipt process under supervision and independently after training.
  • Ensure kits are timely processed and samples delivered to concerned departments.
  • Generate an appropriate audit trail of all activities.
  • Perform on-call and after-hours duties as needed.
  • Ensure SOPs are timely read and adhered to.
  • Identify potential biohazard problems and follow corrective action.
  • Encourage others to follow biohazard precautions.
  • Ensure daily cleaning of the work areas.
  • Maintain training files and ensure they are up-to-date.
  • Ensure work area and department are kept in good order.
  • Ensure proper documentation for future reference.
  • Work well within a team environment.
  • Minimize biohazard waste.
  • Mentor new employees for integration within the team.
  • Generate new ideas for departmental process improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year applicable work experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Computer literacy and skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
  • Dynamic attitude and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong detail orientation.
