About the position

The Sanitation Tech I position at Utz Quality Foods involves supporting the Sanitation Supervisor in maintaining cleanliness and adherence to USDA and FDA regulations within the manufacturing facility. The role requires performing plant cleaning tasks, operating various cleaning equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene guidelines. The position is essential for maintaining a safe and efficient working environment and requires both independent and team-oriented work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform plant cleaning as prescribed by the Master Sanitation Schedule.
  • Maintain general housekeeping in dedicated areas of the plant and assist in sanitation across the entire facility.
  • Utilize powered cleaning equipment including Douglas washing machine, power washers, foam applicators, steamers, and automatic compactors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate equipment such as floor jacks, trash compactor, and vacuum cleaner safely and knowledgeably.
  • Follow instructions for safe lifting and carrying of various objects; identify and report defective equipment; report all job-related injuries to management.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment carefully to prevent damage and prepare for sanitation.
  • Assist departments in spill containment caused by various events.
  • Work independently with no direct supervision and maintain a high efficiency level.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment efficiently and without conflict.
  • Practice and adhere to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection.
  • Follow all applicable GMP's for the assigned area.
  • Maintain and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA and plant requirements.
  • Participate in all necessary safety training, team development programs, and plant initiatives.
  • Support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S (sort, set, shine, standardize, and sustain).
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 1-year production experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Familiarity with working in a USDA regulated facility.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, reliable, and resourceful.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative/analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use innovative approaches to resolve problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot general equipment mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Ability to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Dedication to achievement of results.
  • Ability to manage projects and multi-task from conception to conclusion.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • HACCP certification preferred.
