About the position

The SATCOM System Engineering Lead at Kratos is responsible for overseeing the development, integration, and sustainment of RF-based SATCOM ground segment components for both commercial and government networks. This role requires strong technical leadership, systems engineering expertise, and the ability to innovate and integrate new technologies into existing systems. The position involves collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure operational readiness and effective communication of design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers through development, integration, fielding, sustainment, and technical refresh of multi-site, RF-based SATCOM ground segment components/infrastructures.
  • Develop and maintain system artifacts such as functional block diagrams, rack elevations, build guides, wiring lists, site laydowns, etc.
  • Effectively communicate design solutions and trade space with customers, users, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with test, software development, and sustainment leads to ensure unity of action in maintaining and improving system capabilities.
  • Contribute to the development of new in-house solutions to enhance mission operations.
  • Canvass technology base for new system concepts to enhance mission operations.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of System CONOPs, TTPs, and alternative courses of action.
  • Develop and maintain training documentation.
  • Lead and conduct hardware/software requirements analysis.
  • Implement systems engineering processes and procedures to establish system requirements and produce necessary documentation.
  • Verify requirements are met using approved verification methods and document verification results.
  • Conduct oversight on design, implementation, and integration of system engineering processes and solutions.
  • Chair configuration management board and oversee change management processes.
  • Lead technical planning and provide oversight to system integration of new and partner systems.
  • Support user assistance needs and system evaluation to maintain operational readiness.
  • Perform technical support and risk assessment in support of Program Management.
  • Develop and manage technical goals and schedules, integrating milestones and key events.
  • Perform management functions and mentoring for Project and Systems Engineers.
  • Conduct hiring of technical personnel to support contract mission.

Requirements

  • Current Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering (EE, ME, AE, CS) or applied sciences (Mathematics, Physics).
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience, with five (5) years in space SATCOM/RF and/or satellite ground systems.
  • Experience in decomposition of Government requirements to a system, subsystem, and components.
  • Experience in preparing technical papers and modifying system engineering processes throughout all project phases.
  • Experience in organizing project stakeholders towards achieving goals and objectives.
  • Ability to explain complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Experience working with diverse engineering staff with multiple areas of expertise.
  • Experience developing and managing Project Management products like Program Roadmaps and Integrated Master Schedules.
  • Experience supporting DoD IC, SATCOM, and Space communities in mission execution.
  • Experience with Configuration and Change Management Processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Degree in engineering (EE, ME, AE, CS) or applied science (Mathematics, Physics).
  • Ten years experience in RF/SATCOM and/or ground systems.
  • Familiarity with military and commercial space and satellite constellations.
  • Experience with Agile Ops and integration of SATCOM/RF networks and infrastructures.
  • Familiarity with the latest commercial satellite constellations and commercial SATCOM.
  • Experience working in DoD and IC national security space programs.
  • Experience with certification of SATCOM/RF networks, infrastructures, and components.
  • Experience generating training materials or conducting hands-on training.
