About the position

KBR is searching for a satellite assembly integration and test (AI&T) engineer to support the development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. This role involves oversight of various contractor integration and test (I&T) activities, identifying and resolving technical issues, and influencing contractor efforts to successfully deliver satellites for on-orbit operations. The candidate will also oversee and advise government program management on integration across the full spectrum of interfaces, coordinating with multiple mission partners. A successful candidate should be a leader and problem solver with a proven ability to deliver superior results as part of a high-performing team in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. The candidate will apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts for highly classified systems while effectively communicating complex results with management and executive leadership. In this position, you will provide System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO) at Kirtland AFB, NM, or El Segundo, CA. The Space RCO is one of three US Space Force acquisition organizations, specializing in delivering first-of-systems to fill quick-turn needs to deliver operational capability to the USSF. For each project, Space RCO sets up small, agile, and empowered teams, including program managers, technical specialists, contracting, finance, and security, using the right acquisition strategies to set the effort up for success. You will work in one of these small teams and provide in-depth background on satellite vehicle bus and/or subsystem assembly, integration, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as program advisory lead for planning and negotiating transition requirements for SpRCO programs to SpOC.
  • Rapidly develop and field new, highly classified space capabilities for operations, establishing operational and tactical applications, and conducting research to meet emerging space-centric needs.
  • Support management and execution across the entire portfolio of programs and ensure programs are properly coordinated and lessons learned are applied efficiently for rapid fielding.
  • Provide detailed analysis, evaluation, and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission-critical challenges/issues.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to verify and track program needs, producing, tracking, and coordinating all agreements and documentation necessary for SpRCO systems to transition seamlessly into a framework for organizing, training, and equipping the United States Space Force.
  • Coordinate with external agencies including operational units, higher headquarters, Combatant Command (COCOM) staffs, other acquisition activities, and research and development functions.
  • Support and advise acquisition and program management functions, advising government management on design challenges, operational delivery, and integration, and support system program reviews.
  • Assist in acquisition planning and technical requirements development.
  • Help the government assess the technical sufficiency, cost, quality, and timely delivery of program deliverables.
  • Draft, review, and edit final program reports, documents, and briefings.
  • Initiate, supervise, and/or develop requirements from a project's inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs.
  • Aid in the development of a Monthly Status Report on all support efforts including updates in status and performance, major activities, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Translate results into simple, actionable recommendations or easily differentiated courses of action.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy—oral and written.
  • Provide strategic advice, technical guidance, and expertise to program and project staff.
