About the position

As a Satellite Ground Station Field Service Engineer at Viasat, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team within the Technical Services organization, specifically in our Antenna Systems Division located in Duluth, GA. This role has emerged due to our significant business growth and the innovative development of high bandwidth SATCOM solutions tailored for commercial, government, and military applications. Your primary responsibility will be to provide exceptional technical support to our SATCOM earth station customers globally. This position requires not only technical expertise but also excellent interpersonal skills, as you will be interfacing directly with customers to ensure their systems operate with minimal downtime. In this role, you will work independently to diagnose and resolve complex issues while also collaborating with the engineering team at our headquarters to facilitate prompt resolutions to any challenges faced by our customers. You will be expected to develop strong customer relationships and effectively engage with various functional areas within the company. Leading technical discussions across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple geographic locations will be a key aspect of your responsibilities. Your day-to-day activities will include becoming a Subject Matter Expert on customer needs, antenna systems, and Viasat products. You will provide both remote technical assistance and onsite maintenance support, ensuring that issues are quickly identified and resolved. Collaboration with Service Program Managers and Technical Service Managers will be essential to ensure that all necessary actions are taken for effective onsite and remote support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for SATCOM earth station customers globally.
  • Interface directly with customers to ensure minimal downtime of their systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues independently and collaboratively with engineering teams.
  • Develop strong customer relationships and engage with various functional areas within the company.
  • Lead technical discussions across multi-disciplinary teams and geographic locations.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on customer needs, antenna systems, and Viasat products.
  • Provide remote technical assistance and onsite maintenance support to customers.
  • Collaborate with Service Program Managers and Technical Service Managers for effective support.

Requirements

  • 3 years of related field experience.
  • Experience leading technical resolution during emergency restoral actions on ground station equipment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to begin and continue tasks without external stimulus.
  • Capable of quickly adapting to new and dynamic situations.
  • Demonstrated experience providing remote technical assistance and devising solutions.
  • Ability to handle long hours in stressful environments until customer issues are resolved.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting LAN and IP equipment on customer sites.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • US citizenship required and ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Willingness to be on-call after hours up to 30% and travel up to 50%, including international travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience with Viasat specific products (3880 ACU, AC4100, VTR-4100, VHR-600, VHR-1200).
  • Education and training in satellite communication systems principles.
  • Direct experience repairing and installing satellite earth stations.
  • Advanced analytical skills for troubleshooting and implementing solutions.
  • Experience working in Sales Force, ServiceNow or other ticketing and workflow tools.
  • Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
