About the position

The Saw and Radius Team Lead at Howmet Aerospace is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Saw and Radius department in a heavy industrial forging manufacturing plant. This role involves managing team members, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and maintaining efficient productivity. The Team Lead will conduct shift hand-offs, monitor employee performance, and ensure that all necessary tools and resources are available for the team to perform their tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assign, execute, and review work performed on assigned shift.
  • Conduct hand-off meetings with the previous shift Team Leader.
  • Review safety incidents and quality concerns from the previous shift.
  • Assign shift personnel to machines and prioritize jobs.
  • Ensure every employee is working safely and following company safety standards.
  • Identify safety hazards and generate safety near miss reports as necessary.
  • Ensure work centers have required tools and documents to keep machines running.
  • Report equipment issues to maintenance and create maintenance work orders.
  • Monitor employee performance and document issues in departmental files.
  • Operate equipment as needed to maintain productivity.
  • Conduct and monitor training and orientation for team members.
  • Perform Safety Stops, Quality Walks, and 5S audits as scheduled.
  • Inspect and restore the work area to acceptable 5S status and perform end of shift audits.
  • Check supply levels and fill out request forms as needed.
  • Address any employee relations issues that arise.
  • Oversee the execution of the daily forging production schedule and direct employees in safety, quality, and productivity principles.
  • Monitor and maintain production standards for efficiencies and part quality.
  • Initiate corrective actions to achieve productivity goals.
  • Input, analyze, and communicate quality control data.
  • Develop and execute cross-training of process technicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1-year work experience in Hot Operations Shop (Saw and Radius) or related manufacturing department.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • An associate's degree or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education from a technical school or military training.
  • Leadership experience including training others or leading projects.
