The SBA Underwriting Manager will manage and coordinate the activities for the assigned Business Banking Underwriting department. This role ensures quality service and effective support for all assigned internal and external customers. The manager will accomplish results through the effective management of staff that may range from lower level non-exempt through exempt level professionals. The position requires administering corporate policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The manager will conduct the underwriting review process in a manner designed to minimize the bank's risk while employing problem resolution techniques in approving loans. Additionally, the manager will provide support and training for all staff, including underwriting guidelines for underwriting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate activities for the assigned Business Banking Underwriting department.
  • Ensure quality service and effective support for all internal and external customers.
  • Administer corporate policies and procedures and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct underwriting review processes to minimize the bank's risk while resolving problems in loan approvals.
  • Provide support and training for all staff, including underwriting guidelines for underwriting staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically eight to ten years of related experience.
  • Effective supervisory and management skills in the Business Banking or Commercial Underwriting space.
  • SBA Lending experience and thorough knowledge of SBA SOP.
  • Expert level of knowledge of all underwriting functions.
  • Strong organizational, managerial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Well-developed customer relations skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of credit policies, credit analysis, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Strong analytical skills in relation to evaluating asset utilization and goals.
  • Demonstrated analytical and risk analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in nCino, Moody's Credit Lens, and Microsoft Suite preferred.
