About the position

As a Small Business Banking Underwriter I at Commerce Bank, you will play a crucial role in the underwriting process for business loan requests up to $1 million. This position is designed to ensure the acquisition, cross-sell, profitability, and retention of Small Business customers. Your primary responsibility will be to balance the risk associated with credit requests against the potential value of the customer relationship, enabling you to make informed decisions that benefit both the bank and its clients. In this role, you will analyze financial statements and collateral while conducting thorough industry research. You will be tasked with identifying opportunities to expand customer relationships and explore alternative options that may better serve their needs. Additionally, you will provide remote deposit support, which includes processing and decisioning loan applications. Maintaining loan procedures and addressing compliance exceptions in a timely manner will also be part of your responsibilities. Your duties will include performing loan processing tasks, ensuring that applications are complete, and advancing them through the loan platform system. You will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the underwriting team. Responsibilities

• Underwrite business loan requests up to $1 million that results in the acquisition, cross-sell, profitability, and retention of Small Business customers
• Analyze financial statements and collateral while performing industry research
• Identify opportunities to expand relationships and alternative options for the customer
• Provide remote deposit support, including processing and decisioning
• Maintain loan procedures and clear compliance exceptions on a timely basis
• Perform loan processing, remote deposit support and compliance management
• Perform loan processing duties, including the review for completion and moving the application forward in the loan platform system
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• 2+ years underwriting experience required
• Basic understanding of corporate/legal structures and corporate governance documents and their respective relationships to effectively bind necessary borrowers
• Basic understanding of a variety of collateral types, ways to value, and documentation needed to perfect security interest
• Basic understanding of loan policy and identification of credit exceptions
• Basic understanding of financial statements and trend analysis
• Solid credit understanding and analysis skills
• Ability to utilize critical thinking skills to assess current and future potential risk factors
• Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

• Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
