About the position

The Engineering Technician will support the Small Arms Weapon Systems Division at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN. This role involves performing non-standard assignments, adapting procedures and equipment, and working independently under supervision. The technician will be responsible for constructing components, conducting tests, compiling engineering data, and assisting in design modifications.

Responsibilities

• Constructing components, subunits, or simple models and troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
• Conducting various tests or experiments, requiring minor modifications in test setups or procedures.
• Extracting and compiling engineering data from field notes, manuals, and lab reports, processing data, and identifying errors or inconsistencies.
• Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials.
• Developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, recognizing inconsistencies or gaps in data.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-3 years of experience in related duties.
• NSW Armorer baseline, weapons armory experience, and explosive certification required.
• Prior experience with NSWC Crane Operations is required.
• Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment.

Nice-to-haves

• Weapon Operation Manual writing/tech writing knowledge preferred.
