About the position

The Engineering Technician will join Bowhead's team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) in the Small Arms Weapon Systems Division. This role involves performing non-standard assignments that require adaptability in using standard procedures and equipment. The technician will work independently under supervision, conducting various engineering tasks and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.

Responsibilities

  • Construct components, subunits, or simple models and adapt standard equipment; troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Follow specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conduct various tests or experiments, making minor modifications in test setups or procedures as necessary.
  • Extract and compile engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data and identifying errors or inconsistencies.
  • Assist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts.
  • Develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, using judgment to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in related duties.
  • NSW Armorer baseline, weapons armory experience, and explosive certification required.
  • Prior experience with NSWC Crane Operations is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Weapon Operation Manual writing/technical writing knowledge preferred but not required.
