About the position

The SCADA Engineer for Grid & Renewables at Black & Veatch will be responsible for generating engineering design documents and deliverables for substation and renewable energy SCADA systems. This role involves oversight of engineering work, teaching fundamental SCADA concepts, and coordinating project work to ensure timely execution. The engineer will also provide solutions based on industry standards and trends, develop control system architecture, and support field construction teams remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Generate engineering design documents and deliverables for SCADA systems related to substations and renewable energy.
  • Provide oversight and lead engineering work, teaching fundamental SCADA concepts to other engineers.
  • Coordinate SCADA project work to ensure timely execution.
  • Develop control system network architecture diagrams and procurement specifications for SCADA equipment.
  • Provide remote support to field construction teams for troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Perform quality assurance checks, man hour estimates, and factory acceptance testing.
  • Conduct cyber security auditing and commissioning support at sites or remotely.
  • Develop standards and specify equipment part numbers for project work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with substation and renewable energy (wind, solar, battery energy storage).
  • Familiarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, OPC UA, and other control system protocols.
  • Experience with VMware, FactoryTalk ME/SE, Ignition, AVEVA HMI software, and other virtual/HMI software platforms.
  • Knowledge of protective relays and automation systems for renewable energy.
  • Experience with SEL RTAC and IED architecture design and configuration.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC configuration.
  • Knowledge of NERC-CIP cyber security standards.
  • Experience with IEEE 1547 inverters and OT single mode fiber optic network design.
  • Network troubleshooting skills and experience with analysis tools like Wireshark.
