About the position

The SCADA/Instrumentation/Electrical Technician I/II/III position at Helix Water District involves performing skilled duties in the design, construction, installation, modification, calibration, maintenance, and repair of various electrical and electronic control systems used in the treatment, storage, pumping, and distribution of potable water. The role is flexibly staffed, allowing for progression from journey-level to master-level responsibilities based on experience and performance. Technicians will work under general supervision and may be required to respond to emergencies, perform preventive maintenance, and lead projects as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled duties in the design, construction, installation, modification, calibration, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair a variety of electrical, electronic, telecommunication, and instrumentation systems.
  • Rebuild equipment to manufacturer's specifications, including motor controllers and flow transmitters.
  • Modify, install, and support software-based control and instrumentation logic.
  • Plan and lay out jobs from blueprints, drawings, or verbal instructions; maintain records in the CMMS program.
  • Respond to emergency situations as necessary, including after normal working hours.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on industrial electrical systems and components.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance and guidance to other district sections and departments.

Requirements

  • Valid Class C California driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the district's vehicle insurance policy.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within six months.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by applicable college-level coursework or specialized training.
  • Two years of journey-level experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical and/or electronic equipment for Technician I.
  • Five years of journey-level experience for Technician II, with additional certifications required within 18 months of hire.
  • Two years of advanced journey-level experience for Technician III, with additional certifications required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SCADA systems and PLC programming.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with computer network protocols and systems.
