About the position

The Patient Access Specialist III Schedistrar I is responsible for scheduling outpatient procedures, managing patient and insurance information, and ensuring efficient communication between patients and healthcare providers. This role involves handling scheduling requests, providing visit-specific information, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The position requires a high level of attention to detail and effective communication skills to enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule outpatient procedures for various departments.
  • Perform registration functions by gathering demographic, guarantor, and insurance information during calls.
  • Enter patient information into the registration system accurately.
  • Respond to requests for appointment rescheduling or cancellations.
  • Utilize medical terminology to assess appointment requests against orders.
  • Inform patients and providers about necessary authorizations and potential non-covered services.
  • Provide price estimates and triage requests to appropriate resources.
  • Triage and process appointment requests according to department standards.
  • Identify and prevent duplicate patient records and billing accounts.
  • Efficiently use multiple information systems as required by workflows.
  • Answer basic financial questions and refer complex inquiries to Patient Financial Services.
  • Operationalize federal regulations and report safety concerns to management.
  • Assist with onboarding new team members and coordinate care medical record requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of healthcare experience in Patient Access Services, Practice Operations, or Patient Financial Services required.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail and self-directed with a positive attitude.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Typing or data entry competency of at least 40 words per minute.
  • Cash handling and balancing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of patient registration systems.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills preferred.
  • Epic experience preferred.
