About the position

The Scheduler at SCA Health is responsible for coordinating and scheduling outpatient surgeries and procedures, ensuring that all necessary patient information is accurately captured and communicated. This role plays a crucial part in facilitating effective communication between medical staff and managing the logistics of surgical operations, contributing to the overall efficiency and quality of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Schedule all outpatient surgeries and procedures as requested by the physician or the physician's office staff.
• Obtain and add patient demographics and insurance information into the billing system.
• Contact payers to verify patient benefits and obtain necessary authorization.
• Coordinate with the Director of Nursing to ensure availability of needed equipment, requested staff, and/or ancillary services.
• Prepare and distribute the daily surgery schedule to relevant staff members.
• Capture complete and accurate clinical, demographic, and insurance information on patients scheduled at the surgery center.
• Communicate same day and next day add-on cases to the Director of Nursing and other appropriate employees.
• Notify the Director of Nursing of any potential scheduling conflicts.
• Promptly communicate any patient problems to the Business Office Manager and/or Director of Nursing.
• Maintain positive communications with medical staff members and their office personnel.
• Track cancellations and monitor block time.
• Prepare daily bank deposits for monies received at the surgery center.
• Cross-train to cover the front desk for lunches, breaks, and extended absences of the Receptionist/Admitting Clerk.
• Perform other clerical duties as directed by the Business Office Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one (1) year scheduling experience in an ambulatory surgery facility, acute-care hospital, or doctor's office.
• Strong attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
