About the position

The Scheduler Surgery PRN position at Ogden Regional Medical Center involves coordinating surgical schedules and ensuring effective communication between surgical teams and physician offices. This role is essential for maintaining a smooth workflow in the operating room and providing excellent patient interactions. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Input surgical cases from surgeon offices and create the surgery schedule utilizing system policies.
  • Provide a customer-friendly atmosphere to physician offices during telephone conversations and coordination of the surgery schedule.
  • Communicate inpatient admit numbers to the Patient Access Coordinator.
  • Coordinate anesthesia assignments between the OR, SMOPS, Endoscopy, Cath Lab, and other offices.
  • Coordinate with radiology for rad techs and c-arm coverage.
  • Link the appropriate preference card(s) to the scheduled procedure.
  • Demonstrate accountability and problem-solving skills.
  • Enter data accurately in the CPCS system.
  • Formulate daily surgery schedule according to the rules of scheduling policy.
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, physicians, surgeons, and offices.
  • Inform management of potential problems with patient, procedure, or surgeon equipment conflicts.
  • Maintain schedule to ensure proper and adequate anesthesia, nursing staff, and equipment can be provided.
  • Notify the appropriate departments and personnel of schedule changes, additions, and cancellations.
  • Provide printed schedules to appropriate parties at designated times.
  • Verify that 'inpatient only' cases are appropriately scheduled.
  • Work with vendors for acquisition of special equipment, implants, and supplies for procedures by request.

Requirements

  • One year of computer skills and medical terminology preferred.
  • Background in medical terminology and surgical procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Previous OR experience strongly desired.
