About the position

The YMCA School Age Care program is seeking part-time childcare staff aged 16 and older to provide care for children in grades K-5 before and after school. This role focuses on creating a structured, healthy environment for school-age children, offering opportunities for mentorship and positive role modeling. Staff will engage in various activities that promote the development of the whole child through a theme-based curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the writing and implementation of weekly lesson plans.
• Organize and lead a variety of activities appropriate for school age children, including arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor games, and enrichment activities.
• Ensure that the site is kept clean and organized.
• Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, daily rosters, logbook documentation, and attendance records.
• Assist in completing child and program evaluations.
• Maintain employee requirements for Minnesota Department of Health and Safety (DHS) Certified Centers or Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DHS) Licensed Centers.
• Maintain CACFP and Minnesota DHS or Wisconsin DCF regulations for meals and snacks, if applicable.

Requirements

• Minimum age of 16 for MN locations or 18 for WI locations.
• Adult and child CPR or CPR/PR; First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
• MN or WI State background check and state fingerprints required upon hire.
• Good skills in communication, organization, and human relations.
• Willingness to work with diverse populations.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous experience working with school age children.
• Knowledge of DHS or DCF program requirements.
