About the position

The School Age Childcare Teacher at Channel Islands YMCA plays a crucial role in providing quality care and supervision for children aged 5-12 years in a before- and after-school program. This position involves assisting the Site Supervisor in planning and implementing engaging activities while ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all children. The teacher is responsible for supervising children, guiding their behavior, and fostering connections with families, all while adhering to state guidelines and YMCA core values.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Site Supervisor in planning, organizing, and implementing a quality after- and before-school children's program.
  • Supervise up to 14 children independently and up to 28 children with an Assistant or Associate Teacher.
  • Provide quality care and supervision to children, ensuring a safe environment for all to thrive.
  • Guide children's behaviors using positive methods tailored to individual needs.
  • Carry out activities and lesson plans that meet Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards.
  • Set up and clean up the program area, including vacuuming, sweeping, and trash removal.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families.
  • Participate in and complete in-service trainings satisfactorily.
  • Create a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all children and families.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team.
  • Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order and report any concerns.
  • Maintain certifications and pursue professional growth opportunities.
  • Support the annual campaign process, including member education.
  • Understand and act as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse, reporting situations as per policies and procedures.
  • Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical, and professional manner.
  • Implement YMCA core values and support strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess 12 units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • 6 months of experience in a childcare setting required.
  • Complete required certifications within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Health Screening Report and negative TB test required prior to the first day of employment.
