About the position

The School Aide is responsible for providing instructional and behavioral assistance to students under the supervision of the special education department. This role involves supporting students with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs, as well as facilitating learning activities and ensuring adherence to Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.

Responsibilities

• Follows through with IEP objectives including math, reading, speech, and managing behavioral deficits and excesses.
• Facilitates teacher-directed learning activities including lesson plans, worksheets, and small groups.
• Assists students when included in general education classes.
• Communicates pertinent information to teachers.
• Accompanies students during recess and lunch periods, along with community experiences.
• Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students and parents.
• Assists with activities of prescribed programs including those written by related service personnel.
• Assists students in the development of independent skills through self-care activities.
• May assist in behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher.
• Assists teacher with clerical duties including making copies and preparing materials.
• Assists with transfers and ambulation.
• Reports changes in client status as directed.

Requirements

• Must have a valid CPR Certification.
• Computer proficiency required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in working with special needs students.
• Strong communication skills in English.
