About the position

The School Aide position at Amergis involves providing instructional and behavioral assistance to students under the supervision of the special education department. The role includes supporting students with personal and therapeutic care needs, facilitating learning activities, and ensuring adherence to Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Follow through with IEP objectives including math, reading, speech, and managing behavioral deficits.
  • Facilitate teacher-directed learning activities including lesson plans and small group work.
  • Assist students in general education classes as needed.
  • Communicate pertinent information to teachers regarding student progress.
  • Accompany students during recess, lunch, and community experiences.
  • Adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding student and parent information.
  • Assist with activities prescribed by related service personnel such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Support students in developing independent skills through self-care activities.
  • Assist in behavior management techniques as directed by teachers or other professionals.
  • Help teachers with clerical duties including preparing materials and maintaining classroom organization.
  • Assist with transfers and ambulation of students.
  • Report changes in client status as directed.

Requirements

  • Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participate in Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current health certificate as per contract or state regulation.
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
