About the position

The School Baker at Kalihi Kai Elementary is responsible for preparing a variety of baked goods for students and staff, ensuring timely meal service and adherence to health and safety standards. This role involves coordinating with food service employees, managing ingredient inventory, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and serving areas. The position requires hands-on baking experience and the ability to supervise and train kitchen helpers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with food service employees to ensure timely preparation of baked goods.
• Review daily production records and secure necessary ingredients and equipment.
• Accurately weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to standardized recipes.
• Prepare and bake a variety of baked goods including bread, rolls, and muffins.
• Set up serving counters and serve food to students and staff.
• Clean and maintain work areas and dining areas in a sanitary manner.
• Label, store, and dispose of leftover foods appropriately.
• Receive provisions and document product temperatures as needed.
• Assist in training new food service employees and supervise helpers.
• Attend staff meetings and achieve required training hours.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Six months of experience as an apprentice or helper in a kitchen with basic baking skills.
• One year of specialized experience as a baker in a relevant setting, producing baked goods from scratch.
• Knowledge of baking ingredients, their properties, and safe handling practices.

Nice-to-haves

• Possession of an associate's degree in food service/culinary arts with training in quantity baking.
• Completion of a full-time curriculum in quantity baking from an accredited institution.
