About the position
The School Band or Orchestra Instructor position involves teaching beginning band and orchestra classes to elementary school students in the Salt Lake Valley. The role requires proficiency in musical instruments and the ability to manage classroom dynamics effectively. Classes are conducted part-time, with a focus on fostering musical skills in young learners.
Responsibilities
- Teach 2 - 4 classes per week using prescribed methods and supplementary materials.
- Perform in 2-3 concerts per year.
- Communicate regularly with administrators and parents as needed.
- Keep roll weekly.
Requirements
- Proficiency in band or orchestra instrument(s) of choice.
- Understanding of fingering and basic technique required for all instruments in the genre.
- 2 years of group or semi-private teaching experience and an understanding of pedagogical approaches.
- Understanding of rehearsal techniques and conducting skills.
- Classroom management skills.
- Ability to work well with elementary age children.
- At least 18 years old.
- Able to pass a thorough background check.
- Must have a working vehicle.
