About the position

The School-Based Behavioral Health Clinician at A Better Way, Inc. is responsible for providing direct mental health services to children and youth at assigned school sites. This role involves delivering individual, group, and family therapy, collaborating with educational staff, and performing evaluations and case management as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. The clinician will work closely with students, parents, and school personnel to support the mental health needs of children in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provides culturally/linguistically sensitive individual, group, family and collateral outpatient psychotherapy to EPSDT/Medi-Cal eligible clients referred for treatment.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains positive relationships with the principal, school staff, and team clinicians.
  • Maintains a caseload relevant to FTE, co-facilitates groups, and provides trainings to teachers and parents.
  • Informs Principal when making a CPS report and may support teachers in doing so, if requested.
  • Attends appropriate meetings, including weekly group supervision, staff meetings, trainings, and supervision.
  • Consults with parents regarding educational and social issues of their children.

Requirements

  • MSW, MA, PhD or PsyD from an accredited school of social work or psychology.
  • Must be licensed or registered with BBS or BOP.
  • Excellent clinical and writing skills.
  • Direct experience working with diverse racial and ethnic populations.
  • Understanding of basic theoretical and developmental principles of infant, early childhood, and family mental health.
  • Ability to understand psychological assessment reports; psychological assessment experience is a plus for psychologist applicants.
  • Knowledge of DSM and treatment plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent organizational, computer, and communication skills.

  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Understanding and desire to work with a strength-based mental health approach.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to work with interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships.
