About the position

The School Based Medical Assistant at Meridian Health Services plays a crucial role in providing clinical and administrative support in a school-based clinic. This full-time position focuses on delivering primary health care and patient management, ensuring a holistic approach to health that integrates physical, mental, and social well-being. The Medical Assistant will work as part of a medical care team, adhering to NCQA standards, and will be involved in various patient care activities, including assisting with examinations and maintaining patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with flow through the clinic and escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Take vital signs and prepare patients for assessment.
  • Prepare exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing, maintaining appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Sterilize instruments as assigned.
  • Screen telephone calls for referrals.
  • Ensure that pertinent information and recent test results are in patient records.
  • Assist providers with minor diagnostic procedures and treatments as directed.
  • Remain in exam room with provider during patient exams as requested or assigned.
  • Follow infection control guidelines and ensure adherence to OSHA and CLIA protocols.
  • Perform daily controls on equipment and maintain records/logs in accordance with regulations and protocol.
  • Prepare medications.
  • Maintain CPR certification and licensure requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Complete weekly task assignments.
  • Accurately triage walk-in patients and call-ins.
  • Stock supplies in medical rooms prior to all shifts.
  • Check expiration dates on all pharmacy and other stored products.
  • Adhere to scheduling assignments.
  • Attend required meetings, in-services, and participate in committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties and activities as per credentialed and proven skill level or incidental to the work and responsibilities of this position.
  • Use additional forms of telehealth to assist provider.
  • Provide health screening (PHQ9, Edinburgh Scale, and GAD 7) as needed to direct patients to needed medical care.
  • Complete Daily Operations Reports as requested by the Practice Manager.
  • Log and transmit temperature data as required for vaccine and medication storage.
  • May provide Vaccines for Children (VFC) program coordination and oversight.
  • Maintain cash box, audit, and bank deposits.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program; Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Prefer six months to a year of work experience, preferably in a clinic setting.
  • Previous pediatric experience preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
