SOS Personnel is currently seeking dedicated Personal Care Assistants (PCA) for the upcoming school year in Philadelphia, PA. The role of a PCA is crucial as they are assigned specifically to a student or a group of students who require one-on-one assistance to ensure their appropriate and equitable participation in the school environment. As a PCA, you will work directly under the guidance of the teacher, providing essential support to students in various capacities. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities and are looking for a flexible work schedule. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, collecting, and setting up materials necessary for student participation, following the teacher's direction. You will provide instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students either individually or in small groups, reinforcing and following up on the instruction given by the teacher. Additionally, you will assist with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling, ensuring that all students are engaged and supported. Maintaining daily activity logs for your assigned students is a key responsibility, as is alerting the regular teacher to any problems or special information regarding the individual students. You will serve as the primary source of information for the assigned students, especially in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring continuity of care and support. It is essential to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information, as expected of all educational staff. Furthermore, you will assist in the operation and use of student mobility devices, such as walkers, wheelchairs, braces, and canes, and help students with self-care tasks as assigned by the teacher. This role requires a compassionate and patient individual who can effectively communicate with children and youth throughout the school day, providing the necessary support according to each child's PCA plan of care.
