About the position

The School Based Program Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado is responsible for implementing and facilitating mentoring programs aimed at supporting youth development. This role involves engaging with teens, preparing educational materials, and collaborating with school staff to foster mentoring relationships that promote positive outcomes for youth. The coordinator will also be involved in recruiting students for events and maintaining relationships with community partners, all while embodying the organization's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Implement curriculum strategies for programming that are culturally responsive.
  • Prepare for daily classroom instruction including confirming classroom schedules and gathering supplies.
  • Lead 2-3 STARS program(s) as directed by specific BBBSC and/or grant requirements.
  • Meet regularly with mentors to provide support and additional training.
  • Facilitate all mentoring meetings with identified high school students.
  • Recruit and chaperone students to the BBBSC Mentor Life Summit and STARS National Conference as directed by grant requirements.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings for professional development.
  • Develop and sustain ongoing relationships with school staff, including teachers and principals.
  • Work with evaluation team on administering and submitting all required assessments.
  • Support and promote agency goals, initiatives, mission, values, and culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field and/or 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds, particularly at-risk youth and youth of color.
  • Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task and attend to details.
  • Exceptional relationship, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working with youth in programming/teaching or in a leadership role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in positive youth development, college/career readiness, and volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices.
  • Ability to foster relationships with community partners and diverse stakeholders.
