About the position
GIFTED Healthcare is seeking a full-time School-Based Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) for the 2024/25 school year in Indiana. This role involves providing interpreting and support services for deaf or hard of hearing students in educational settings. The position emphasizes communication facilitation, tutoring, and adherence to professional conduct guidelines, ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate communication among deaf or hard of hearing students (DHH) and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system.
- Provide tutoring and/or note-taking services for DHH students.
- Follow the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment guidelines of professional conduct for Educational Interpreters.
- Provide interpreting for assemblies, concerts, ceremonies, field trips, or parent meetings when necessary.
- Carry out classroom management or individual behavior plans as designed by the classroom teacher and/or IEP team.
Requirements
- American Sign Language proficiency (1 year required).
