About The Position

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must obtain a valid Ohio Class B or higher Commercial Driver License with School Bus and Passenger endorsements.
  • Must be insurable by the Board's insurance carrier with no DUI convictions and no more than six points on driving record in the past three years.
  • Pass a Federal and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation background check.
  • Pass an Ohio Department of Education T8 physical.
  • Pass a pre-employment controlled substance screening.
  • At least four years of experience operating motorized vehicles.
  • Capable of administering basic first aid, including CPR.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Familiar with streets in the Dayton Metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus on an established route according to regulations and policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, documenting results as required.
  • Report mechanical defects to Fleet Services personnel.
  • Transport students and staff for field trips and special activities as assigned.
  • Assist pupils with special needs during boarding, seating, and securing safety restraints.
  • Communicate with dispatchers using professional language via two-way radio.
  • Supervise pupil behavior on the bus and provide safety directions as needed.
  • Conduct emergency evacuations and train pupils on proper procedures.
  • Consult with parents and school officials regarding behavior issues on the bus.
  • Report accidents and complete necessary documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bus, including interior and exterior cleaning.
  • Participate in training and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  • Follow district policies and report violations as necessary.
  • Support the district's core principles of professionalism and customer service.
