About the position

The School Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during transport to and from school. This part-time position involves supervising students on the bus, enforcing safety guidelines, and maintaining a positive atmosphere. The role requires interaction with students and staff, as well as support for students with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and monitors students while on the school bus.
• Enforces school bus safety standards at all times.
• Reports students who cause issues on the bus to the director of transportation or building administration.
• Assists in maintaining an accurate, current rider list.
• Maintains an updated seating chart for the bus when applicable.
• Assists in keeping the assigned bus clean while following safety protocols.
• Establishes and maintains a calm, pleasant, and safe atmosphere on the school bus.
• Maintains a professional attitude with both students and staff.
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality to ensure teamwork and completion of job duties.
• Adheres to a professional code of ethics, including confidentiality of school-related matters.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to interact well with students and staff.
• Ability to support students with special needs.
• Successful completion of Employment History Review, fingerprint-based criminal background check, sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.
