School Counselor

About the position

The job of a school counselor is to use the student competencies to assess student growth and development and inform decisions that help students achieve at the highest academic level possible. The counselor will ensure that all students have access to a Comprehensive School Counseling Program, which includes a clearly defined program that utilizes student competencies to guide decision-making and professional learning goals. The counselor will also utilize school and student data to set specific and measurable annual student outcome goals, create action plans, and deliver instruction and services aligned with Georgia's workforce readiness and outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Assess student growth and development using student competencies.
• Inform decisions regarding strategies, activities, and services to help students achieve academically.
• Utilize student progress data to guide counseling services and professional learning goals.
• Set specific and measurable annual student outcome goals based on school and student data.
• Create action plans addressing instruction, small group support, and individualized consultation.
• Deliver instruction and services through large group, classroom, and school-wide curricula.
• Provide individualized consultation, student appraisal, and advisement for student learning management.
• Offer individual and group counseling to support post-secondary pursuits.
• Respond to individual or schoolwide crises.
• Support a positive school climate through various services and activities.
• Disseminate school and community resources to assist students and families.
• Consult with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support student achievement.
• Coordinate with district and school leaders and collaborate with educators, parents, and the community.

Requirements

• A Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Guidance and Counseling.
• A Valid Georgia Service Certificate in School Counseling P-12.
