About the position
The School Health Medical Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting Local Education Agencies (LEA) and Managed Care Plans by developing and implementing school-based Medi-Cal and Commercial billing programs. This position aims to maximize revenues for schools to enhance health equity and provide comprehensive health strategies for children. The specialist will offer technical assistance, training, and consultation to ensure effective billing practices and compliance with relevant programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of school health insurance billing infrastructure.
- Design and implement training, coaching, and technical assistance programs for educational entities and community partners related to school-based billing programs.
- Support LEAs in designing and implementing systems for all aspects of school-based billing programs, including contracting, onboarding, credentialing, eligibility checking, documentation, claims submission, and reimbursement.
Requirements
- Five years of increasing responsible experience in Medi-Cal and Commercial billing.
- Experience with billing in a school setting or with children in the youth population is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or a related field.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Medi-Cal and Commercial billing in educational settings.
- Knowledge of health equity strategies and whole child approaches.
