About the position
The School Nurse at Bradley Schools is responsible for providing nursing care to students during the school day, ensuring their health and safety in accordance with state regulations and the standards of Bradley Hospital. The role focuses on health promotion, illness prevention, and creating a healthy environment for students through health assessments, education, and collaboration with parents and community health providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to students during the school day.
- Conduct health assessments for early detection of health problems.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and community health providers.
- Participate in the development of school health standards and policies.
- Administer medications and manage chronic health conditions of students.
- Offer screenings for vision, hearing, dental, and scoliosis as per state regulations.
- Educate school personnel and students on health management measures.
- Develop and implement Individual Care Plans and Emergency Care Plans for students with specific health needs.
- Maintain confidential health records for each student.
- Assess the school environment for safety and health hazards.
Requirements
- Valid RN License in the State of Rhode Island or Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- Current CPR Certification.
- Experience in nursing, preferably in a school setting or with children and adolescents.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, non-judgmental attitude.
- Knowledge of psychiatric, behavioral, and developmental conditions in children and adolescents.
Nice-to-haves
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
