About the position

The Occupational Therapist at Amergis is responsible for providing skilled occupational therapy services to clients, conducting evaluations, and developing individualized treatment plans. This role involves collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients recovering from illness or injury. The therapist will also instruct patients and their families on therapy programs and adaptive equipment, while maintaining accurate documentation of services provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provides skilled occupational therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders
  • Reevaluates client for rehabilitation needs and modifies the plan of care as appropriate
  • Assesses patient needs and modifies care to meet goals of Occupational Therapy Interventions
  • Collaborates with all disciplines to plan and evaluate team goals for each patient
  • Instructs patient/family/caregivers on the total occupational therapy program
  • Advises and instructs members of the multi-disciplinary team in specific occupational therapy modalities
  • Observes and reports patient progress and/or changes in patient status to physician and multi-disciplinary team members
  • Refers individuals to other disciplines as deemed appropriate
  • Teaches new skills or retrains clients in daily activities affected by illness or injury
  • Establishes equipment needs to facilitate independent living
  • Instructs individuals and/or family/caregivers in the use of adaptive equipment
  • Trains individuals and/or family/caregivers in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
  • Performs work capacity evaluations and may refer individuals to specialized vocational training
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation according to the plan of care
  • Participates in care conferences to ensure coordination of services
  • Prepares and submits clinical progress summaries
  • Provides in-services/education programs for various disciplines
  • Participates in peer consultation process
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants according to policies and regulations
  • Participates in discharge planning when applicable
  • Complies with applicable laws and regulations regarding professional standards
  • May fabricate splints and instruct in their use
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of practice
  • Graduate of an accredited school or program of Occupational Therapy
  • One (1) year of prior professional Occupational Therapy experience preferred
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR certification if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
